soul work

![Its been a really LONG, extremely eventful day, so I'll make this short, with the promise to post more photos this weekend. </p><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>Ladies and Gentleman… Presenting, new mom Maya, and her foal (who was born in the pre-dawn hours this morning), Sir Wellington of @[251670221560471:274:Lilly Pond Foal Rescue]!!!” width=”403″ height=”269″ /></div>
<p><em>At least temporarily, no horses are being slaughtered in the United States. Both the House of Representatives and Senate appropriations committees have already voted to halt all funding for horse slaughter in FY 2014. A request for Congress to prevent tax dollars from supporting horse slaughter was also included.Specifically, the provision would prevent any funds from going to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to conduct meat inspections at horse slaughter facilities. Without inspections, the practice of horse slaughter for human consumption is effectively banned. Moran’s amendment would reinstate the five-year ban on horse slaughter that was in place from 2006-2011. “More than 80 percent of the American people oppose the practice of horse slaughter – our laws need to sync with our values.” <a href=](https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/s403x403/1098067_539106969472241_780911272_n.jpg)
When we are facing our own finiteness, will we consider the suffering of others more? When we connect with a person, an animal, a place, another living creation- isn’t that what touches our soul?
Logic and decency dictate that those who earn their living “on the backs” of horses; those who love and respect horses; and all those with humane values join together to end this unsupportable practice. To accept the slaughter of horses as a necessary evil is to validate the position of those who would place a greater value on the bottom line than on life itself. Watch this video. Is there any way we cannot see the value of a horse?http://wamu.org/programs/metro_connection/13/04/05/a_second_chance_for_inmates_and_horses
Why do hospitals NOT allow dying people in their “palliative care” units to share those last days with their “loved ones”? Nursing homes could accommodate more. We all could make concessions for humane practices that are soul lifting for the ones we help and the ones who are allowed to experience this sort of gift of human kindness. I wonder when the philosophy of “meeting the patient’s expectations for their hospital stay” will include making room for everything that the patient values? We have prioritized cultural competence and are creating healing spaces. What about the things that make our souls sing, rest, recover, rejuvenate, restore, relax, return to full function and the lives we were intended for? Or the good end, we deserve??
When one person speaks up to state the truth, the rest will follow your lead. Don’t remain silent on things that you know are not right and do not accept that you are alone. Say what you see out loud and there will be someone else who thinks the same thing but hasn’t taken that final step to say so. It will be well with your soul. Hmmm…..Reminds me of that old hymn….:)
When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, It is well, it is well, with my soul.Refrain: It is well, with my soul, It is well, it is well, with my soul.
