Sightlines
Historic vessels had clear gun positions. They were always located on the sides and the ships had to face off for engagement of arms. Imagine the closeness of those boats. What are sightlines? A hypothetical line extending from an observer’s eye to a viewed object.
What about now? Things are more subtle. This caught my eye, high up on the sails.
What’s the same? The human connection. If you make it, its remembered!
I saw these guys walking four abreast down a historic street. They stood out and once we met- were standouts. They toured the museum displaying wonderful manners and a sincere interest in the local people and docks. I had no idea what branch of service they were in, but you could tell from the way they conducted themselves- they were military professionals. Helicopter pilots and crew, to be exact. They were with the Coast Guard. Imagine that. I was looking for white uniforms!
They honored me with a fly by- for my photography training. Very personable, they went by in a full circle twice and this is the only decent shot I got! While I was busy trying to get a photo, the captain was enjoying a salute and waving a friendly goodbye!! I may give up this photography hobby. I seem to be missing out on some things!
