What is a dreamweaver?
As a cubicle cohort leafed through a Plow and Hearth catalogue, she mentioned that her husband said he wanted this open firepit. She thumbed to the page and exclaimed over the price. Good grief, “maybe he would like this one just as well” as she showed me a glorified trash can in comparison to a copper gleaming vessel.
No, I said, “he would not.” I asked her,” are you a dreamweaver or unraveler?”
You be the judge:

I recommended she buy the one he wanted for his birthday this month. Anything less would be an insult or serve to unravel the dreamlike evenings he envisioned for his family to enjoy this summer by the inground pool nestled in a parklike setting with mature trees and plush grass. One of his favorite things is mowing grass and then sitting back with a beverage by the pool. This item was just a way to extend an existing pleasure and make it more special. It could be something more to look forward to as he completes his weekly home chores after a work week spent commuting to and from his office in a very intense profession.
Instead of ordering the item, we started talking about the term- dreamweaver.
Surprise! Guess what Merriam Webster said? “The word you’ve entered isn’t in the dictionary. Click on a spelling suggestion below or try again using the search bar above”. The closest thing Merriam Webster has is dreamworld- ” a world of illusion or fantasy”. That’s not exactly what I meant. Dreamweaver- hmmm. where have I heard that? Dream catcher? It was in the dictionary- “: a circular framed net with a hole in the center that is used by some American Indian peoples to help block bad dreams and catch good ones”. Maybe, I used the native american penchant for weaving blankets and catching dreams- to make it up? Nope. Did I first hear it during conversations with people about websites?Nope. It’s a song- I can hear it playing in my head!!!!! It was the name of an album!
“The Dream Weaver” by Gary Wright. I found his website and see he has been inspired to complete a new album- Connected.
So now I give it up to you and hope you will be uplifted by what you hear. I named the album Connected because I believe we are all connected with one another and that our thoughts and actions have a great influence on our planet collectively. We, therefore, all need to work together in making this world a better place by manifesting more hope and more positive thinking wherever we go as well as doing our parts in creating peace and spreading it wherever we see darkness. In light and peace, Gary

Visionary songwriter, performer and all-around musical pioneer Gary Wright has spent more than thirty years shattering conventional ideas about how to make chart-topping rock music. It was in 1967, after earning a degree in psychology and then touring Germany as a singer/songwriter, that Wright met Island Records founder Chris Blackwell and moved to London, where he formed the rock group, “Spooky Tooth.” Not only have his classic songs “Dream Weaver”, “Love is Alive” and “Really Wanna Know You” proven their genius by achieving hit status in three different decades; Wright’s musical wizardry has also extended, more than once, to changing the very sound and texture of contemporary pop.His groundbreaking 1975 release “The Dream Weaver” stretched the pop music envelope by featuring the first-ever all keyboard/synthesizer that revolutionized the musical instrument business and changed the sound of pop, rock and R&B forever. In 1976 the song “Dream Weaver” hit 1 in the charts, and its follow-up release “Love is Alive” climbed to 2. In all, “The Dream Weaver” resulted in sales of over 2 million albums and 2 million singles. In a business where even the biggest success is often written in the wind, the popular appeal of Wright’s songwriting genius has endured. In 1991 Warner Bros. Records asked Gary to remake “Dream Weaver” for the “Wayne’s World” movie soundtrack – which went on to become Billboard’s 1 soundtrack album, selling over 2 million copies. “Dream Weaver” was also featured in the Golden Globe winner “The people vs. Larry Flynt.”…In addition, “Dream Weaver” and “Love is Alive” were featured in the films “Daddy Day Care” and “Coyote Ugly” respectively. So, you see, we should have coined this phrase and submitted it to the dictionary with the definition we have internalized since our teen years. Since I developed this concept as a kid, I looked at the definition of Dream and Weaver.
Dream-1 : a series of thoughts, pictures, or feelings occurring during sleep 2 : a vision created in the imagination : DAYDREAM 3 : something notable for its beauty or pleasing quality 4 : a goal that is longed for : IDEAL
Weaver- one that weaves, Weave-1 a : to form by lacing together strands of material; especially : to make on a loom by lacing together threads going lengthwise with threads going crosswise <weave cloth> b : to form into a fabric <weave wool into tweeds> 2 : 1SPIN 2b <a caterpillar weaves a cocoon> 3 a : to make by or as if by lacing together parts <wove an exciting adventure tale> b : to insert as a part : work in <weave a moral into a tale> 4 : to move back and forth or from side to side <weaving his way through a crowd of holiday shoppers>
What is a Dreamweaver- a person who sees possibilities, who perceives the desires of others and inserts the threads of pleasing and desirable people, places and things in ways that can be woven to create a framework for the ‘wish to be fulfilled”. Its inspired moments, when all the visions and ideas created by imagination and desire, are captured in surprising and spontaneous ways that can be shared with others. To be a dreamweaver, a person must be in tune, in touch, intuitive, in to other people, open to intimacy ( in to me see) on a totally different level than we are familiar with. Dreamweaving is not for the faint of heart. Its much easier to remain oblivious and overlook these kinds of things because there is risk associated with being so closely in tune that you see the possibilites because you will also see the missed opportunities.
Since I don’t have a pool, but do like the ambience, I’d probably opt for the lines on this one and choose several.

Since I heard his wish and know she’s not getting it, should I buy it? How far do you take this? As far as you feel good about. As far as necessary. From what I have heard and seen, he could buy it himself if he got past the internal issues he has with spending money. He scrimps and frowns while everyone else in the family gets what they like for the most part. By imposing these limits on himself, he maintains his purported martyrlike role in the family dynamics. Do you know what happens when people have dreams and suppress them or repeat to themselves- I can’t, I can’t, I can’t………..?
What would happen if she spent this money to buy this firepit that he has expressed his desire for? Several possibilities: 1. he would secretly be pleased as punch but pretend he was upset at the expense. 2. he would suspect she had been spending more on the other family members and this was just a token to justifiy her behavior. 3. he would openly embrace the kind, caring and thoughtful response to his desires. 4. he would exclaim over it and then leave it in the garage to waste away in a corner of cobwebs.
Who knows what his response would be? Does it even matter? A dreamweaver must remain focused on the higher good and moving in the world of unseen vs seen. No one can read another person’s mind nor really know what’s going on inside them, but we can choose to act on what we see, hear, and feel. That’s our responsibility. I think I acted on mine when I asked her to consider it for his birthday and then pointed out that she would unravel his dream to get him a cheaper alternative. Have you ever heard the expression,” I’d rather have nothing than something less than what I really want?” or ” I’d rather keep my dreams than have a hollow substitute?” Since he shared his dreams with her, she has the power to weave the opportunties into their lives and cause some of the dreams he has to become a reality. But you must remember, it matters who you tell your deepest desires and heartfelt wishes. Just as much as they can act to make your dreams come true, they can be destructive and unravel your hopes by their actions or inaction. We secretly want the people we share this intimate information with to do something, to make something happen, to be part of our dream coming true!!!
Right now I am weaving a dream that includes a lush natural area featuring a steep tree lined cliff that ends with a trickling brooke at the rear of a small patio. The sound of moving water is free courtesy of nature’s original drainageway for a wooded wetland. I envision a retreat that parts the trees, for a built surface that extends out over the steep cliff and nestles in the trees right alongside that stream. Why don’t I have this already? Mostly because presenting your dream to another person may or may not result in their grasping it, wanting it, or helping you. In order to reach the end picture of what you see in your mind’s eye, you either have to put it on paper or ignite the imagination of someone else who has the skills to make it a reality. That’s your dreamweaver. Find that person and help them make theirs a reality in return.

Post Script: within hours of posting this, I was taking a lunch break and browsing the classifed ads in the local newspaper. I saw this Ad : Outdoor Copper Firepit, By Frontgate, 40″ Built to last, $200, Call xxxx. I googled Frontgate and found this one.
Copper Fire Pit $395
Our estate-quality 40″ Copper Fire Pit is stylish and made to resist outdoor elements year-round. Don’t be fooled by the painted, plated versions our competitors offer.
Yep, I am a dreamweaver. At least today, I am. I sent the email with the ad and this link. About 30 minutes later, she said, “Unbelievable, actually this is the one he wanted! 5 years old, has cover. Just have to find time to go get it.” Maybe a dreamweaver is just a facillitator, a connector of wishes and happenstance, just a person who happens to be in the right place at the right time and does all they can to do the right things.
PSS…..I can’t help myself. I must give you as Paul Harvey would say, “the rest of the story.” The text came through from my friend…”I got it for $125″. So, for little more than the cost of a glorified trash can looking firepit, she got a solid copper bowl with a little rust on the grate and a little rust on the base…..but she can clean it up as good as new. Can you believe this? Ms. Negotiator of the First Degree weaved an unreal deal. She is happy, the seller is happy, and her husband will be surprisingly pleased.
