“What is learned in song, is remembered long.”

Why would we sing songs to children and learn songs that last a lifetime?

These words come back to you when you need them. Researchers have found that dementia patients who cannot remember your name can still remember the words to songs and find comfort in singing.

Songs bring back feelings.

Music can help bring back memories. When a song comes on that was part of your life, you are immediately transported back to that special time in your past.

One of the most valuable gifts you can give your child is a love of language.

When your child has a love of language, book, and songs, she will have formed a solid foundation for learning for the rest of her life.  Just taking time each day to sing rhymes with your child, either preschool songs or silly songs you make up, can have a significant impact on her long term.

You can work in these songs or games like “I-spy”,  as you play together or even at bedtime as a lullaby.

It may just be songs and games now, but you are creating long-term benefits that will help them throughout life.
